How to Convert an iPhone HEIC Photo to JPG
An iPhone photo may arrive as a HEIC file that a form or older app will not accept. Changing the filename to .jpg will not convert the image. The picture has to be decoded and saved in a different format.
Convert the file
- Open the HEIC to JPG Converter and choose the HEIC photo from your device.
- JPG is selected for this task. Leave the quality setting near its starting value, then adjust it only if you need a smaller file.
- Select Download image. Open the downloaded JPG to check its color and detail before deleting the original.
The browser decodes the HEIC file and creates a new image. EverythingDeck does not receive the photo. This also means an older or unusual HEIC variant may fail to decode on a particular device. If that happens, use the export option in your device’s photo app instead.
What changes in the JPG?
JPG works well for ordinary photos but does not preserve transparency. The conversion creates a still image, not a Live Photo or an editable original. Re-encoding can also change color, quality, file size, and embedded metadata. Keep the HEIC original if you may want to edit it again.
If your form also limits dimensions or file size, use the Image Resizer or Image Compressor after conversion. Check the downloaded file against the form’s actual requirements rather than assuming JPG is always smaller than HEIC.
Apple also documents how HEIF and HEIC photos are captured and shared. Its Most Compatible camera setting affects future photos; it does not convert files you already took.
